Sound Devices 888 — 16-Channel / 20-Track Portable Production Mixer-Recorder with Dante

The 888 is the third mixer-recorder in Sound Devices' 8-Series, sitting between the 833 and the flagship Scorpio. Roughly the size of the legacy 788T, it's the smallest portable mixer-recorder on the market that offers Dante I/O — making it equally at home in a bag rig or on a mobile cart for high channel-count productions.

Key Features

  • 8 ultra low-noise mic/line preamplifiers with up to 76 dB of gain and -131 dBV (-129 dBu) noise floor
  • 16 channels, 20 tracks of recording (16 ISOs + 4 buses) at up to 192 kHz
  • 16x16 Dante / AES67 I/O over a single transformer-balanced RJ45 Ethernet port
  • 32-bit float recording on ISO tracks; 16/24-bit fixed for buses (32-bit float available up to 96 kHz)
  • Triple-redundant recording — internal 256 GB SSD plus 2x SD cards, all simultaneous
  • 10 buses total — main L/R + 8 independent buses, each with configurable routing and linkable limiters
  • Dugan Automix and MixAssist — up to 16 channels of automixing
  • Per-channel 3-band EQ (pre- or post-fade), high-pass filter, multistage limiting, polarity invert
  • Switchable +12 V / +48 V phantom power per channel
  • AES3 / AES42 digital input on the first XLR (alternative to analog mic/line)
  • Ultra-accurate internal timecode — 0.1 ppm, holds TC up to 4 hours after shutdown
  • Optional NoiseAssist plugin (2/4/8 instances) and CEDAR sdnx for noise suppression
  • SuperSlot via SL-2, A20-Nexus multichannel receiver support, XL-AES 8-channel AES3 expander
  • SD-Remote app control (Android/iOS) and MCU-protocol USB control surfaces (Behringer X-Touch, iCON, dedicated CL-16)
  • Powering: dual L-Mount Li-ion (with charging), Smart Battery, NP-1, or 10–18 V external DC on locking TA4
