The Schoeps MK 22 open cardioid sits between the wide cardioid (MK 21) and the standard cardioid (MK 4). It offers a more focused pickup than the MK 21 while retaining a more natural, open quality than a full cardioid.
The MK 22 is a versatile choice for instrument pickup, choir recording, and stereo techniques — particularly where some room ambience is desired without the rejection of a tight cardioid.
Pairs with any Colette series preamp such as the CMC 1 U, CMC 6 U, or CMD 42.
