Sound Devices MixPre-3 II — 3-Channel / 5-Track 32-Bit Float Recorder & USB Interface
The MixPre-3 II is the entry point to Sound Devices' compact recorder line — designed for field audio, sound effects, podcasts, voice-over, music, and indie film. Despite its small footprint, it shares the same Kashmir mic preamps and 32-bit float A/D topology as its bigger siblings, delivering broadcast-grade audio in a setup that fits in a backpack.
Key Features
- 3 Kashmir mic/line preamplifiers — discrete Class-A, ultra-low-noise design, up to 76 dB gain
- 3 channels, 5 tracks of recording (3 ISOs + L/R mix). Expandable to 5 channels / 7 tracks with the optional +2ch plugin
- 32-bit float recording — 142 dB dynamic range, no clipping, no limiter setup needed
- USB-C audio interface — 5-in / 2-out for streaming to computer (16/24/32-bit integer or 32-bit float)
- Internal LTC timecode generator with TC In/Out via Aux In / Stereo Out
- Color touchscreen — sunlight-readable, full menu access
- Adjustable limiters in 16/24-bit modes (analog + multistage digital, threshold/ratio/release)
